For most dance groups, the key to raising funds is to connect with friends and family by selling them something they're likely to buy anyway. Instead of asking a relative to buy an item they might not normally purchase, you must give them an opportunity to do you a favor without being extravagant. So the key is to match the program with your audience. The other key is to connect with members of the community who love and appreciate dance. This is why, in addition to picking a product that works, you want to market to people in the community that see value in the arts.

One of our recent clients was a competitive high school team. This team was one of the top teams in the state. Needless to say, they had a lot of expenses – travel, competition fees, uniforms, etc. What they didn't plan on was that the entire school budget was cut, in particular the sports and extra-curricular clubs. Their entire season was in peril. After a few drawn out meetings, the parents and the school administration came up with a compromise. They got a small budget, but the rest of the funds would be the responsibility of the dance team and its boosters.
Now was the challenging part. They needed to raise money and they needed it fast. Before the school year started, they developed a strategic fundraising strategy to address their funding goals.
