Youth Sports Fundraising Selling Tips

Sports Fundraisers are a different breed than school fundraisers. Sports fundraisers tend to be more seasonal and have a more focused initiative. The fact is that many youth sports organizations have limited or no government funding so their survival depends on fundraisers. It is imperative that the fundraiser succeeds because there’s a limited fundraising window available for sports teams. Once the season is over, the window closes. So sports organizations must capitalize on the short window of opportunity. School-Fundraisers.com works with hundreds of sports organizations each year. Below are some tips to help your youth sports fundraiser succeed.

League fundraisers are more successful that team fundraisers. An obvious point in all fundraisers is that the more participants that are involved, the more successful a fundraiser will be. If your team is of need of a fundraiser, check with your league president to see if there’s an interest league wide. The resources of the league office are usually more adapt to dealing with fundraisers. If there’s no interest from the league, not to worry because teams can have a successful fundraiser as well.

Cheerleaders are part of the league. Too often, the cheerleading squad acts as a separate entity and has their own fundraising strategy. We’ve seen greater success when the cheerleaders are included with the entire league in their fundraising plans. Like the point above, more participants translates to more fundraising success. Combine your resource and your chances of success will increase.

Kick off the fundraiser during sign ups. Have your fundraiser all set to go during the sign up period. Don’t waste any time. Once a participant signs up, get them started with fundraising. Once the season begins, the focus shifts elsewhere, so try to capitalize on their enthusiasm from the get go.

Make sure the parents and community understand the fundraising goal. You must educate everyone on where the fundraising proceeds will go. Whatever the end goal is (uniforms, equipment, travel expenses, tournament fees, banquet expenses, etc.); make sure everyone understands why they are doing the fundraising. This will help motivate the community to support your fundraiser.
